Two abstract institutional fund channels showing diverging digital asset flows

Bitcoin ETF Outflows Return as XRP Funds Keep Their Weekly Edge

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds just gave back Tuesday’s rebound, while XRP funds remained one of the few parts of the crypto ETF market still showing a positive weekly trend.

The split is a useful reminder that “institutional crypto demand” is not one trade. Money can leave the largest asset while continuing to test a smaller one.

Cointelegraph reports that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $262 million in net outflows on Wednesday. That reversed about $176 million of inflows the day before and left the funds down approximately $151 million for the week through Wednesday.

The move came as Bitcoin fell below $82,000. Bitcoin remains the world’s largest crypto asset by market value, so the reversal matters well beyond one day of fund accounting.

The Wednesday withdrawal also erased Tuesday’s best inflow session of the week and followed roughly $681 million in Bitcoin ETF outflows during the prior week, showing that one rebound had not yet changed the broader October pressure.

At the same time, XRP products stayed positive for the week, making the contrast less about one winning asset and more about investors separating mature Bitcoin exposure from newer altcoin fund demand.

XRP keeps the better weekly line

XRP funds also moved day to day, but their weekly picture remained positive. According to the same report, they had drawn roughly $7.5 million for the week through Wednesday, extending a run that has consistently separated XRP products from broader crypto-fund weakness.

That does not mean investors are simply rotating money from Bitcoin into XRP. Tuesday’s data showed XRP funds posting no net flow while Bitcoin funds attracted about $176 million.

Without matching XRP outflows, there was no evidence that Bitcoin’s inflow came from XRP.

The stronger conclusion is narrower: buyers are treating the two exposures differently. Bitcoin funds are large and liquid enough to react sharply to macro fear, while XRP funds are still building a younger base of institutional demand.

One day is not the trend

ETF flow data is most useful when it is read as a series, not a verdict. Tuesday showed that Bitcoin demand can return quickly.

Wednesday showed that it can reverse just as quickly when price and macro conditions deteriorate.

XRP’s positive week is encouraging, especially while larger fund categories struggle. But it is not proof that XRP has replaced Bitcoin as the institutional favorite.

Bitcoin’s products remain vastly larger, and a single large redemption day can overwhelm several smaller inflow sessions elsewhere.

The cleaner signal is that crypto’s institutional market is becoming more selective. Bitcoin is absorbing the heaviest macro pressure.

XRP is preserving a modest flow advantage. The next several sessions will show whether that divergence has staying power or was simply another short-lived split inside a volatile market.
