Bitcoin coin holding steady near Wall Street during a market selloff

Bitcoin Holds Near $78,000 as Stocks Fall and Treasury Yields Hit 5%

Bitcoin is doing something worth watching: it is holding near $78,000 even as the pressure around it gets heavier.

CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin managed a modest gain near $78,000 while U.S. stocks fell, oil climbed and the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield reached 5%, putting crypto’s relative strength against several major markets on display.

That combination is normally hostile territory for risk assets because it raises funding costs and gives investors a more competitive return in government debt. Higher long-term yields can also strengthen the dollar, compress stock valuations and reduce demand for leveraged speculative positions across the crypto market.

Bitcoin did not suddenly become immune to Wall Street, and the report did not present the move as a clean breakout. The largest cryptocurrency was simply refusing to follow equities lower in lockstep during that session, a meaningful divergence after weeks in which macro headlines repeatedly drove crypto price action.

That relative strength gives bulls something concrete to work with after a volatile stretch.

It also comes with a warning. A market can look resilient right up until a support level gives way, and traders have been focused on the area around $78,300.

The report framed Bitcoin’s small advance against a broader cross-asset selloff rather than as an isolated crypto rally. Stocks were reacting to renewed concern about expensive technology shares, while the move in oil added another inflation-sensitive pressure point.

That matters because the same forces can pull crypto in opposite directions. Falling equities can trigger defensive selling, while Bitcoin’s fixed supply can attract buyers looking for an alternative when confidence in traditional assets weakens.

That makes the weekly close more important than an intraday bounce. Holding the zone would support the idea that buyers are absorbing a difficult macro backdrop.

Losing it would turn the same resilience story into a failed defense of support.

The bond market is the biggest outside variable. A 5% 10-year yield tightens financial conditions without the Federal Reserve having to make a new move.

It can pressure growth stocks, strengthen the dollar and reduce the appetite for leveraged trades across crypto. Bitcoin holding steady against that backdrop is constructive, but it is not proof that the pressure has passed.

A separate Decrypt analysis examined the possibility of a bullish moving-average crossover, often called a golden cross, after Bitcoin’s latest rebound cooled. The setup reflects improving longer-term price averages and shows how recent gains are beginning to change the technical structure even without an immediate surge.

That signal can improve the medium-term picture, but it is backward-looking and cannot override present market conditions. Price still has to defend support before the crossover can matter to traders, especially while bond yields and equity weakness create a tougher liquidity backdrop.

The analysis also distinguished the potential crossover from an immediate breakout signal, which is a crucial limitation for readers weighing the setup. Moving averages summarize earlier price action, so traders still need confirmation from the next weekly close, stronger volume and follow-through above resistance before treating it as a durable trend change.

In other words, the setup is constructive without being conclusive. It strengthens the case for watching Bitcoin closely, but it does not erase the downside risk created by a 5% Treasury yield and weak equity sentiment.

For now, Bitcoin has earned the benefit of the doubt—but only barely. The clean bullish case is a weekly close above the contested $78,000 area followed by stronger participation.

The bearish case is a breakdown that confirms yields and broader risk aversion finally caught up with crypto.

That is why this moment matters. Bitcoin is trying to hold its ground in a hard market, and the weekly close will show whether that strength is real.
