Chainlink Deal Opens a Blockchain Path for More Than 600 Banks
• September 7, 2026 3:27 pm • CommentsChainlink just landed the kind of deal that makes the line between traditional banking and blockchain infrastructure look thinner than ever.
Bottomline, a major provider of payment and treasury technology, plans to use Chainlink to connect its bank customers with public and private blockchains for cross-border settlement. The company serves more than 600 banks and handles over $16 trillion in payments each year across its platforms.
Decrypt reports that Bottomline will keep the banking side familiar. Financial institutions can continue sending ISO 20022 payment messages, while Chainlink works underneath as the bridge to blockchain networks.
Bottomline also serves roughly 1,200 financial institutions and 10,000 businesses worldwide. The partnership follows earlier interoperability tests in which SWIFT worked with Chainlink and more than 10 institutions to move tokenized assets onto Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet.
Chainlink’s CCIP has operated since July 2023 and now connects more than 60 blockchains. The companies have not disclosed a launch date or identified a pilot bank, so the agreement is a path to production rather than proof that the system is already live.

Two Chainlink products sit at the center of the arrangement. Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, or CCIP, moves tokenized value across more than 60 blockchains.
Chainlink Runtime Environment, or CRE, coordinates the routing and confirmation steps that turn separate connections into a complete payment process.
That is a meaningful distinction. The pitch is not that hundreds of banks will throw out their existing systems and start operating like crypto-native firms. It is that they can reach blockchain settlement through software and message formats they already understand.

• Always-on markets
• Seamless connectivity
• Near-instant settlement

LINK climbed to $13.64 on Monday, its highest price since January 18, and gained about 6.8% over 24 hours while most large cryptocurrencies were flat or lower.
Open interest in LINK derivatives also reached an 11-month high of $784 million.
Neither company has named a pilot bank or announced a go-live date.
Bottomline’s network gives Chainlink a route into the payment systems banks already use, instead of another proof of concept sitting off to the side.
That is why the deal matters beyond one strong day for LINK. If the integration moves into production, Chainlink could become a practical connector between bank payment instructions and blockchain settlement.
