Elon Musk Reveals Who He Thinks Satoshi Nakamato Is

CEO of Tesla Elon Musk talked about everything in his latest appearance on Lex Fridman’s podcast.

From the topics of colonizing Mars, Space X, cryptocurrency, the Soviet Union and much much more, Fridman and Musk’s conversation was interesting to say the least.

During one part of the podcast, Fridman asked Musk if he was Satoshi Nakamato, to which Musk repied “No”.

Fridman then dug a little deeper and asked ‘would you said no to my previous question if you were Satoshi Nakamato’ to which Musk replied ‘No, I’m not Nakamato’.

Besides denying that he isn’t Nakamato, Musk went on to say that he obviously doesn’t know who Nakamato is but then gave a guess and said cryptocurrency expert Nick Szabo created the  “evolution of ideas” of bitcoin before it ever launched.

Market Insider had more on the story:

Elon Musk seems to agree with many that the hypersecretive cryptocurrency expert Nick Szabo might be Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of the digital currency bitcoin.

“You can look at the evolution of ideas before the launch of bitcoin and see who wrote about those ideas,” Musk told the artificial-intelligence researcher Lex Fridman in a podcast published Tuesday when asked what he thought about Nakamoto’s identity.

The Tesla billionaire said while he “obviously” didn’t know who created bitcoin, Szabo’s theories seemed fundamental to the creation of the leading cryptocurrency.

“It seems as though Nick Szabo is probably, more than anyone else, responsible for the evolution of those ideas,” he said. “He claims not to be Nakamoto, but I’m not sure that’s neither here nor there. But he seems to be the one more responsible for the ideas behind bitcoin than anyone else.”

International Business Times got the scoop too:

While the identity of bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto remains a mystery, Elon Musk seemed to have a guess as to who he thinks might be behind the invention of the cryptocurrency and using the pseudonym.

Musk, like many, said he believes that Nakamoto might be Nick Szabo – a digital currency expert who founded the coin Bit Gold in 1998.

The Tesla CEO made the revelation during the Lex Fridman podcast, which was posted on YouTube Tuesday, when he was asked about Nakamoto’s real identity.

“You can look at the evolution of ideas before the launch of bitcoin and see who wrote about those ideas,” Musk told Fridman. “And then, I don’t know who created bitcoin for practical purposes, but the evolution of ideas is pretty clear before that.

“It seems as though Nick Szabo is probably, more than anyone else, responsible for the evolution of those ideas. He claims not to be Nakamoto, but I’m not sure that’s neither here nor there. But he seems to be the one more responsible for the ideas behind bitcoin than anyone else.”
