Huobi Global (HTX) suffered a massive breach on September 24, 2023.

The centralized exchange reportedly lost more than 5,000 ETH tokens valued at $7.9 million at the time of this writing.

Spokespeople for the exchange claim that the identity of the hacker is known and have even offered a 5% bounty to the hacker if he returns the stolen funds.

Additionally, Justin Sun has announced that the exchange will cover all customer losses.

Here’s what is currently being reported and what we currently know:

Coin Telegraph reports:

On Sept. 24 at 10:00 am UTC, the suspected Huobi hot wallet 0x2Abc22eb9A09EbBE7b41737CCde147F586EfeB6A sent 4,999 Ether, worth approximately $7.9 million, to an address which had no previous history.

The following morning, a separate wallet belonging to Huobi sent a message to the attacker in Chinese.

The Defiant explained: “No further details of the hack are available at this time. The CEX states that user funds remain secure.”

Vortex writes: “Huobi is offering [a] 5% bounty to the hacker. Quite a major month for hackers, especially combined with low crypto performance in September. Attacks like this are a major indicator of security breaches of many major exchanges.”

The Block provided this quote from Justin Sun:

“HTX has suffered a loss of 5,000 ether … due to a hacker attack. HTX has fully covered the losses incurred from the attack and has successfully resolved all related issues.”
