Sui Stalls Again, Halts User Transactions Mid-Epoch
• May 30, 2026 9:58 am • CommentsSui hit two serious mainnet disruptions across consecutive days this week, and the second one stopped the network from accepting user transactions entirely.
On May 29, 2026, Sui said mainnet stalled during an epoch change beginning around 1:30 p.m. Pacific.
Validators stayed up and kept creating system transactions, but user transactions stopped flowing.
This came one day after a separate incident on May 28 that the chain’s own status page tracked from investigation through a validator fix.
Here is how Sui described the active stall on X.
Sui mainnet is currently experiencing a network stall. Network activity may be paused at this time.
The Sui Core team is actively investigating. Updates and incident review will be shared as soon as they are available.

A follow-up post pinned the cause to the epoch change window and confirmed that user transactions were not being accepted.
Sui mainnet stopped accepting user transactions due to an issue during the epoch change beginning at ~1:30PT. Validators are up and creating system transactions, but user transactions are not currently being accepted. The Sui Core Team is investigating, and updates will be shared…

The May 28 incident moved faster toward resolution.
The status page logged an investigation at 7:15 PDT, identified the issue at 7:36 PDT, and started rolling a fix to validators at 12:40 PDT.
By 13:32 PDT, more than two-thirds of stake had upgraded and the network was back online.
The next day told a rougher story. By 13:57 PDT on May 29, validators were only processing system transactions, and hours later the network was still running on degraded participation.
May 29, 2026 19:32 PDT – Update – We have progressed to epoch 1143 – network is currently online with degraded participation.
May 29, 2026 14:41 PDT – Update – We are continuing to monitor for any further issues.
May 29, 2026 13:57 PDT – Update – Validators are waiting to complete epoch change and only processing system txns.
May 28, 2026 13:32 PDT – Update – >2/3 of stake have upgraded to the latest fix, network is currently online.
May 28, 2026 13:31 PDT – Update – The network has recovered and transactions are successfully processing.
May 28, 2026 12:40 PDT – Monitoring – Fix is rolling out to validators.
May 28, 2026 08:43 PDT – Monitoring – Validators are upgrading to the patched release.
May 28, 2026 07:36 PDT – Identified – The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.
May 28, 2026 07:15 PDT – Investigating – We are currently investigating this issue.
Sui has not published a final root cause, and we are not going to invent one. What the chain confirmed is enough: a stall, a paused transaction layer, and a network that returned in a degraded state.
Epoch changes are the routine handoff points where validators rotate stake and committee membership. They are supposed to be boring.
When the handoff is where the chain breaks twice in two days, that is the part builders will remember.
Sui sells itself on speed and reliability. Repeated disruption across back-to-back days cuts straight into the second half of that pitch.
For traders, a network that stops accepting user transactions means orders, liquidations, and arbitrage all freeze with no exit. For builders, a degraded chain means apps that look broken to their own users through no fault of their code.
For capital deciding where to settle, this is the kind of week that gets logged. Uptime is the product on a layer-1, and two stalls in two days is a bill that comes due in trust.
