Tesla–SpaceX Merger Talks Put 30,221 Bitcoin on One Balance Sheet
• October 21, 2026 7:10 pm • CommentsTesla and SpaceX are discussing a combination that would bring two of the world’s most closely watched corporate Bitcoin holdings under one roof.
The number is 30,221 BTC, the sum of Tesla’s last disclosed 11,509 Bitcoin and SpaceX’s reported 18,712 Bitcoin.
At roughly $83,000 per coin, the combined position is worth about $2.5 billion. The talks have not produced agreed terms, and neither company has announced a Bitcoin purchase or sale.
CryptoSlate reports that Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to examine a possible merger after months of speculation about closer cooperation, with Elon Musk saying there are merits to combining the companies while warning that treating a transaction as certain would overstate where things stand; the independent committees matter because Musk leads both companies and cannot negotiate for both sides. Tesla shareholders would still have to approve any transaction, and Musk described that voting hurdle as high, while no exchange ratio, timetable or final structure has been announced; the companies already collaborate across chips, artificial intelligence, robotics and connectivity, but cooperation is not a signed merger agreement, leaving the immediate Bitcoin fact narrower: a completed combination would place two separately disclosed coin positions under one corporate reporting structure.
The public clues had been building before the formal comments. Big Tech Alert noted a burst of cross-following among people connected to the two companies, though social-media behavior by itself proved nothing.
Note: MANY Tesla executives and rank and file employees have started following SpaceXAI executives, and vice versa, in the last 48 hours. https://t.co/IJwKvjSlU4

Decrypt calculates that the two disclosed holdings would create one of the largest non-mining corporate Bitcoin treasuries. Tesla’s position is the familiar piece, while SpaceX’s 18,712-BTC disclosure is the larger block.
A merger would consolidate reporting and control of those assets. It would not automatically move coins on-chain or prove that the combined company planned to buy or sell.
The immediate change would be corporate: one balance sheet, one capital-allocation process and one board-level decision structure for the Bitcoin.
That distinction matters because a corporate merger is not an on-chain transaction. The 30,221-BTC figure comes from adding the companies’ separately disclosed positions.
Gene Munster’s market reaction illustrates the optimism around the talks, while remaining opinion rather than a deal announcement.
Odds of $SPCX + $TSLA combo just inched up.
The question came up on the call. Elon says he thinks it’s a good idea, and there are a lot of merits to combining the companies, but shareholders still have to be supportive.
Believe me, shareholders would support this.

For Bitcoin holders, the important question is what a combined company would eventually decide to do with the position.
Tesla and SpaceX have both kept substantial holdings through multiple market cycles. A merger could make that treasury more visible while subjecting it to a new set of financing, accounting and shareholder priorities.
Claims about buying, selling or using the Bitcoin as collateral remain speculation until the committees produce terms.
The clean takeaway is simple: if Tesla and SpaceX combine without changing their disclosed holdings, 30,221 Bitcoin would move onto one corporate balance sheet. That would instantly make the resulting company one of the biggest corporate Bitcoin holders in the public market.
