Europe’s Largest Asset Manager Puts a Major Stock Index Fund on Ethereum
• November 5, 2026 7:38 pm • CommentsEurope’s largest asset manager just moved a major stock-index product onto a public blockchain.
Amundi has launched a tokenized share class of its Core STOXX Europe 600 equity index fund on Ethereum. The existing fund is not being replaced, and investors can still access it through traditional channels.
The new structure adds a blockchain-based way to issue and record ownership in the same investment product.
That distinction is important. The product is a digital share class inside Amundi’s established fund structure, not an outside token that merely tracks European stocks.
CACEIS built the infrastructure, and the share class was issued on public Ethereum.
In its announcement, Amundi said the move extends its tokenization strategy beyond cash-management products and into index investing. The firm described the STOXX Europe 600 strategy as a widely used building block for European equity allocation.
The index spans 600 large-, mid- and small-cap companies across developed European markets. Putting a share class on Ethereum gives institutional clients and digital platforms a new distribution rail without forcing the fund to abandon its conventional operating model.
Amundi kept the blockchain share class integrated with the fund’s existing structure rather than setting up a separate crypto-native vehicle. Investors can still use the traditional channels, while the Ethereum issuance adds another route for recording and distributing ownership.
The asset manager identified automation, broader accessibility, faster settlement and more transparent ownership records as potential benefits. CACEIS provided the tokenization technology and infrastructure, while Amundi retained responsibility for managing the fund.
That arrangement makes this a measured expansion of an established product, with the public blockchain serving as an additional operating rail.
Onchain distribution is increasingly the point. A current market view captures why the new rail matters:

Amundi says tokenized fund units could improve operational efficiency through automation, widen access, shorten settlement and make ownership records more transparent. Those are potential benefits rather than guarantees, but the launch gives the market a serious test involving a mainstream index fund instead of another crypto-native product.
CACEIS supplied the technology and infrastructure for tokenizing the units. Amundi remains the asset manager, while the fund continues to operate through its existing channels.
That division of responsibilities shows how traditional finance is approaching blockchain adoption: add a new settlement and distribution layer without throwing away the regulated structure underneath it.
Cointelegraph reported that the launch follows Amundi’s first tokenized money-market fund share class in November 2025, also built with CACEIS on Ethereum. The new issuance therefore moves the same broad strategy from cash-management products into a diversified European equity-index fund.
The report noted that the underlying strategy tracks the STOXX Europe 600, covering 600 large-, mid- and small-cap companies. That gives the tokenized share class exposure to a mainstream cross-section of developed European markets rather than a narrow basket built specifically for blockchain investors.
Cointelegraph also cited RWA.xyz data showing tokenized stocks valued at $4.24 billion on November 4, up nearly 27% over the previous 30 days. The figure remains small beside traditional equity markets, but the recent increase provides context for why a large asset manager would add an onchain distribution option now.
As more assets move onchain, investors need reliable information about what each token actually represents. A separate current infrastructure update shows that reference-data layer taking shape:

Ethereum’s role here is also notable. The network is serving as public infrastructure for a share class tied to a familiar, diversified European equity strategy.
Traditional assets are using open blockchain rails while regulated firms remain responsible for the product. That is the adoption model crypto advocates have discussed for years.
The immediate question is not whether tokenized funds can exist. Amundi has already answered that. The question is whether institutions and digital platforms will prefer the new rail enough to produce meaningful volume, faster settlement and lower operating friction.
For Ethereum, the launch is another institutional use case. For Amundi, it is a controlled expansion of an existing product line.
For the tokenized-asset market, it is a consequential test: one of Europe’s biggest asset managers has attached Ethereum to a flagship stock-index strategy.
