Bitcoin Holds the $82,500 Line as Traders Brace for the Next CPI Test
• October 12, 2026 11:11 pm • CommentsBitcoin gave bulls one thing they badly needed heading into a crowded inflation week: it stayed above the line everyone was watching.
The largest cryptocurrency finished the latest weekly candle near $83,700 after a 3.2% decline, but it preserved support around $82,500. A decisive break below that level could pull Bitcoin back into the broad $60,000-to-$80,000 range that contained price for much longer.
Holding it keeps the more constructive reaccumulation case alive.
Cointelegraph reported that the market is now looking past the weekly close and toward Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index report and Thursday’s Producer Price Index release. August CPI came in at 3.4% year over year.
The consensus cited in the report points to a possible increase to 3.7%, with higher fuel costs adding pressure.
The same report put September’s Producer Price Index forecast at 0.3% month over month, up from 0.2% in August. It also noted that the 10-year and 30-year Treasury yields opened the week near 5.24% and 5.60% after retreating from 24-year highs.
Bitcoin is entering those releases after a weekly decline rather than a euphoric run. That leaves the support test, inflation surprise and bond-market reaction tied together over the next several sessions.
That makes this more than a chart-watching exercise. Hotter inflation could push Treasury yields higher and strengthen the case for tighter Federal Reserve policy, both of which have recently weighed on crypto and other risk assets.
A softer reading would ease pressure on real yields and give capital another reason to move back toward risk.
The CME FedWatch tool showed traders assigning only an 18.8% chance to an October rate increase from the current 3.75%-to-4.00% target range. December was a different story, with the source snapshot putting the probability of a quarter-point increase at 70.6%.
This week’s inflation data can therefore reshape December expectations even if October stays unchanged.
Analyst Aksel Kibar compared Bitcoin’s behavior with the repeated “hard retests” seen in global equities after breakouts. His point was straightforward: repeated tests do not automatically invalidate a breakout if the underlying level continues to hold.
Since May 2026, we are seeing more retests and hard re-tests in Global Equities after breakouts. I'm thinking due to Global liquidity and lack of momentum same can be the case for #cryptocurrencies $BTC might be going through one of those hard retests of 82.8K. Rekt Capital framed $82,500 as the weekly decision point. A close above it would confirm the retest and preserve the possibility of continued accumulation.
Turning the same level into resistance would instead reopen the older macro range.
Bitcoin is currently failing its retest of ~$82500
Weekly Close below $82500 and turn it into resistance however and Bitcoin will be back in its Macro Accumulation Range
A Weekly Close above it however would render the retest as successful, keeping the idea of an…

The macro backdrop is still doing Bitcoin no favors. Benchmark Treasury yields remain elevated, while crude oil and fuel prices have kept inflation risk in the foreground.
The source cited average diesel prices at $6.26 per gallon, not far below September’s record. Higher energy costs can filter through transport, goods and inflation expectations even when the immediate market reaction is uneven.
The market defended $82,500, and that is constructive. It has not escaped the pressure zone.
Wednesday’s CPI print will test whether this was a durable support confirmation or merely a pause before another challenge.
