Ripple V SEC: Settlement Coming Soon?

May 21, 2023 1:56 pm Comments

We recently reported on the imminent release of the Hinman emails to the public.

This was a major win for Ripple Labs, as the emails and documents indicate that attorneys and regulators within the SEC believed that there was ‘reasonable’ doubt as to whether XRP could be labeled a security.

While the documents will soon be made public, both Ripple and the SEC have asked for a brief extension to make the contents of the Hinman emails available.

The new deadline both parties requested is June 13. 2023.

This has led many investors, speculators, crypto enthusiasts, and even pro-XRP attorneys to speculate whether a settlement is likely to materialize in the coming weeks:

Daily Hodl writes:

The delay in the ongoing lawsuit has sparked speculations that the SEC and Ripple are possibly using the time to hammer out the details of a settlement.

However, pro-XRP lawyer John Deaton believes that the unsealing of the Hinman documents is unlikely to stop the SEC from seeing the case through to its conclusion.

ZY Crypto echoed other outlets in the speculation:

Meanwhile, following this week’s events, the possibility of public access to these documents has added fuel to the speculation about a potential settlement between Ripple and the SEC.

“Whiff of settlement talks – since this is a joint filing.

The SEC does not want the Kraken released here… Still feels most like a mutually beneficial delay to work on settlement,” tweeted long-term Ripple supporter Hugh Breslin.
