Ripple RLUSD token crossing institutional rails toward a modern brokerage gateway

Robinhood Gives Ripple’s RLUSD a Route to 28.6 Million Customers

Ripple’s RLUSD is getting something every stablecoin wants: a direct route into a platform with tens of millions of funded customers and a growing institutional business.

Ripple announced Tuesday that RLUSD is now live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. The company says the dollar-backed token is expected to reach the main Robinhood app later this year, putting it in front of a platform that reports 28.6 million funded customers worldwide.

That consumer reach is only one piece of the deal. Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement through Bitstamp, while Ripple Treasury will be integrated into Robinhood’s own cash, liquidity, forecasting, payment, risk and intercompany-netting operations.

This is bigger than another token listing.

RLUSD is being wired into more than a buy-and-sell menu. Ripple and Robinhood are connecting the stablecoin to settlement, treasury operations, lending, liquidity and market access.

Ripple Prime already provides Bitstamp by Robinhood with lending and margin financing across roughly 20 digital assets. The partnership announcement says perpetual-futures support is also expected later this year.

CoinDesk highlighted a notable wrinkle: Robinhood helped launch USDG, a competing dollar-backed token, yet it is still making room for RLUSD. That makes this look less like an exclusive stablecoin bet and more like a practical decision to support the rails its customers and institutional partners want to use.

Ripple is building both regulation and distribution.

The Robinhood news lands one day after Ripple said its national trust bank received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Brad Garlinghouse framed that approval as a federally supervised platform for RLUSD and enterprise digital-asset custody.

Regulatory supervision can make a stablecoin easier for institutions to approve, but distribution determines whether anyone actually uses it.

Robinhood brings both retail reach and Bitstamp’s institutional trading infrastructure.

Ripple says RLUSD has grown past $2.4 billion in market value since its December 2024 launch. The broader stablecoin market now exceeds $300 billion, which raises the stakes for every issuer competing to become part of real financial workflows rather than simply exchange liquidity.

The XRP Ledger keeps gaining institutional jobs.

RLUSD is separate from XRP, but the XRP Ledger is central to this rollout because Robinhood intends to use it for institutional settlement. That gives the network another concrete job tied to a regulated dollar asset.

The move follows other institutional deployments on the ledger. Ripple said Monday that Aviva Investors launched a tokenized share class of its roughly £22 billion sterling liquidity fund on XRPL.

None of this guarantees that RLUSD will displace larger stablecoins. The token still has to reach Robinhood’s main app on schedule.

Ripple is pairing regulatory infrastructure with distribution, while Robinhood is treating stablecoins as operating rails instead of a single-token loyalty contest.

If the app launch arrives on schedule, RLUSD will gain one of its largest consumer gateways yet—and the XRP Ledger will gain another institutional settlement channel behind it.
