Solana Sets August Transaction Record as Institutional Demand Builds
• September 2, 2026 7:13 pm • CommentsSolana closed August with a new network activity record, processing 5.2 billion non-vote transactions during the month.
That was 19% above July’s previous record, according to Solana’s own network update. The figure strips out validator voting activity, making it a more useful measure of transactions generated by users and applications than the chain’s larger all-in count.

The record arrived during a less forgiving period for crypto businesses. CryptoSlate reported that gross network revenue fell to $141 million in the first half of 2026 from $1.09 billion one year earlier, even as raw network use accelerated.
The report tied much of that divergence to the cooling memecoin trade. Memecoins fell from 40% of Solana spot trading volume in the first half of 2025 to 16% in the first half of 2026, while stablecoin swaps rose from 6% to 19%.
That shift changed the fee mix. Priority fees and Jito tips had supplied 95% of first-half 2025 gross revenue, but the categories replacing memecoins generated less revenue per trade.
A quarterly comparison points the same way. Solana’s second-quarter network revenue was reported at $51 million, down 43% from the first quarter and 81% from a year earlier, while the median transaction fee was just $0.00043.
The periods are not identical: the activity record covers August, while the revenue comparison covers the first half. Together, they show why more transactions did not automatically translate into more revenue at the same rate.
That distinction matters for anyone evaluating SOL. High throughput proves that the network can attract and process activity.
The record alone cannot answer how valuable each transaction is, whether the activity will persist or how much economic value ultimately reaches applications, validators and token holders.
Institutional demand is adding a second signal.
The network record is arriving alongside a separate institutional milestone. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said the Bitwise Solana ETF crossed $1 billion in assets, while the broader category had taken in roughly $1.7 billion cumulatively without a sustained outflow stretch.
Bitwise Solana ETF just cracked the $1b mark. First one to do it. The category has seen $1.7b in cumulative flows w really no outflow stretch despite coming off a nightmare downturn first half of year. Impressive. Chart from @JSeyff Solana report out today on BI ETF<go>. pic.twitter.com/0myCedI6sC

Those are different kinds of demand. Transaction growth measures use of the chain.
ETF assets measure investor demand for regulated price exposure. Seeing both move higher at the same time gives the Solana story more depth than either number would carry alone.
The record proves scale, but the economics still matter.
The bullish reading is that Solana is showing scale at the base layer while regulated investment products bring in new capital. That combination can reinforce developer confidence, liquidity and attention across the ecosystem.
Transaction count can be noisy. Low fees make it economical for automated systems to generate enormous activity.
A transaction total does not reveal how many unique users were involved or whether application economics improved. Revenue, stablecoin settlement, decentralized-exchange volume, active addresses and fee composition will help show whether August’s surge was broad and durable.
For now, the clean conclusion is that Solana entered September with two measurable tailwinds: record non-vote activity and substantial ETF demand. The next test is whether those signals continue together—and whether the network can turn exceptional throughput into stronger, lasting economic value.
