Contactless card payment connected to global stablecoin settlement rails

StraitsX and Visa Take Stablecoin Card Infrastructure Beyond Asia to 100-Plus Markets

Stablecoin cards are moving from a crypto convenience into a serious payments business, and StraitsX says its latest Visa expansion can take that infrastructure far beyond Asia.

The Singapore-based company announced that its card-issuing capabilities can now support eligible programs in more than 100 markets. The intended customers are fintech companies, digital-asset service providers, wallets and other businesses that want stablecoins to power funding and settlement while users keep paying through familiar card credentials.

The distinction matters: StraitsX did not announce one card launching instantly in 100 countries. Each program remains subject to local regulation, compliance reviews and Visa requirements.

What has expanded is the infrastructure available to businesses trying to launch those programs.

StraitsX said its stablecoin-backed card programs in Asia have reached more than $6 billion in annualized gross transaction value. That gives the company a live operating base as it extends issuing capabilities into additional markets.

The model keeps the customer experience deliberately ordinary. A user pays with a card while stablecoins can work behind the scenes as part of the funding and settlement flow.

Merchants do not need to install a crypto-specific checkout system or receive digital assets themselves.

The company says the expanded capability is aimed at fintechs, digital payment token providers and wallets that want to operate card programs across several markets. StraitsX remains responsible for stablecoin-native settlement infrastructure, while each program still has to satisfy the rules that apply where it is offered.

StraitsX also tied the expansion to newer forms of commerce, including payments initiated by software agents. The immediate business case, however, is much simpler: let people spend from digital-value balances through payment credentials merchants already accept.

That is the larger shift underway in crypto payments: blockchain rails are becoming less visible precisely as they become more useful.

The StraitsX announcement lands during a burst of activity from major payment networks. Visa has been putting stablecoin settlement and prefunding into production, while wallets and blockchain networks are pushing digital dollars closer to everyday spending.

CryptoSlate examined the economics behind that boom and highlighted the layers involved in a card purchase: issuers, program managers, networks, processors, liquidity providers and stablecoin infrastructure companies can all have a role. The product may feel simple at checkout even when the machinery behind it is anything but.

StraitsX is pitching a single infrastructure relationship for businesses operating across multiple markets. That could reduce the amount of separate technical work required, but it does not erase local licensing, customer-protection, conversion, liquidity or dispute-handling questions.

The 100-plus-market figure covers the potential reach of the issuing stack. Actual programs will still arrive market by market and partner by partner.

That makes the next milestones easy to identify: named card programs, approved jurisdictions, clear fee structures and evidence that stablecoin settlement creates a better product rather than merely adding another technical layer.

Still, $6 billion in annualized card volume suggests the use case has moved beyond a laboratory test. Stablecoins are increasingly competing to become the quiet settlement layer beneath payments people already understand. StraitsX and Visa are now trying to make that model portable across a much larger map.
