Worldcoin Introduces NEW Ethereum L2 Network

Worldcoin has announced new plans to introduce its own Ethereum L2 network dubbed “Worldchain.”

The layer-2 will use the Optimism stack, and ETH as the native token, though users also have the option of paying Ethereum’s gas fees using Worldcoin’s native token WLD.

Spokespeople for Worldcoin say that the need for a dedicated layer 2 is due to heavy user traffic on the Optimism network. Decrypt noted:

Sada explained that Worldcoin users represent, on average, 44% of the activity on Optimism and, at times, exceed 90%. Over 2 million active users use Worldcoin’s technology every day.

“There’s a lot of things that need to happen to improve that, but the first one is just having a dedicated network,” Sada said.

This announcement also comes at a time when Worldcoin is embattled with many governments around the world over privacy concerns surrounding the mass collection of biometric data from project participants.

As a consequence of these concerns, the project has been facing outright bans and increased pressure from many countries.

However, support for the project continues to remain strong, and Worldcoin touted their new project in a series of social media posts:

Cryptopolitan added:

World Chain plans to add bandwidth, it is also expected to be improved in user experience. A prominent feature of the newly developed blockchain is the hierarchy of block space for genuine people allowing bots to be significantly cut down, hence their influence is reduced.
