XRP’s Bottom Signal Runs Into a $15.7 Billion Exchange-Supply Test
• October 21, 2026 11:13 am • CommentsXRP is showing one of the market’s classic early-bottom signals, but the amount of XRP already sitting on exchanges means a clean recovery is far from guaranteed.
The hopeful side of the setup begins with valuation. According to CryptoSlate, XRP’s 365-day market-value-to-realized-value ratio has fallen to about 0.92.
That suggests the average holder measured by the indicator is roughly 8% below cost basis.
When a large group of holders is underwater, immediate profit-taking pressure can ease because fewer coins are sitting on gains. That can create room for a bottom. It does not create buyers, however, and that distinction is the heart of XRP’s current test.
The same October 20 snapshot put Dogecoin’s 365-day MVRV near 0.74, while Bitcoin, Ethereum and Chainlink clustered between 0.97 and 1.04. XRP therefore sits under its measured cost basis, though it has not reached the deeper valuation stress visible in DOGE.
Leverage across the wider altcoin market also remains elevated. Glassnode found more than 40% of large-cap altcoins near their yearly leverage highs, with the share of highly leveraged mid-caps at a yearly peak.
🚨 XRP And DOGE Flashing Strong MVRV Opportunity Signals
🐕 $DOGE is standing out among top caps, with its 365-day MVRV near 0.74, meaning recent holders are deeply underwater on average. $XRP sits around 0.92, also placing traders in net losses and creating a historically more… pic.twitter.com/mGQZ5Qe96i

There has also been a meaningful leverage reset on Binance. XRP futures open interest there fell 15.8%, from $538.1 million on October 4 to $453 million during the observed decline.
The estimated leverage ratio dropped from 0.205 to 0.170, while long liquidations hit $25.7 million across October 7 and October 8.
That reduction clears some fragile bullish positioning, but Binance is only one venue. Glassnode data cited by CryptoSlate put total tracked XRP futures open interest above $1.4 billion, with Binance accounting for roughly 27%.
About 73% remained on Bybit, Gate, Bitget, Hyperliquid and other venues, leaving plenty of leverage outside the exchange where the clearest reset occurred.
Altcoin leverage is still running hot.
Prices have pulled back since leverage peaked earlier this month, yet over 40% of large caps still sit near their highest leverage of the year. In mid caps, that share is at a yearly high.

The larger obstacle is spot supply. Aggregate exchange reserves stood at about 11.81 billion XRP on October 17, a level CryptoQuant placed in the 99th percentile of the previous year.
At an XRP price near $1.33, that inventory was worth approximately $15.7 billion.
Exchange reserves differ from active sell orders. They can represent custody, market-making inventory, collateral or hedging.
They are still coins positioned where they can become tradable quickly. Even 1% of that balance would equal about 118.1 million XRP, worth roughly $157 million at the cited price.
The next move needs to be judged by its fuel. A recovery driven by spot demand while open interest stays flat or falls would show that buyers are absorbing supply without rebuilding the same leverage problem.
A fast rally powered by rising open interest and increasingly positive funding would be less convincing.
The practical levels are straightforward. Holding $1.25 would preserve the near-term recovery structure.
Clearing $1.35 and then $1.40 on spot-led demand could bring $1.55 back into view. A decisive break below $1.25, especially alongside weaker Bitcoin, would put the supply overhang and off-Binance leverage back in control.
XRP’s MVRV reading says the market is cheaper and holders are feeling pressure. The Binance reset says some excess has already been removed.
Neither fact proves the bottom is in. XRP still needs the one signal that cannot be manufactured by a leverage bounce: enough real spot demand to absorb billions of dollars in readily available supply.
