Bitcoin Reclaims $81,000 After the Fed Holds Rates Steady—but the Real Test Is Still Ahead
• October 28, 2026 3:08 pm • CommentsBitcoin pushed back above $81,000 after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged, but the move looks more like a reprieve than a clean breakout.
The rebound followed several trips below $80,000 and arrived alongside gains in Asian technology shares and a broader recovery across major cryptocurrencies. CoinDesk found that Bitcoin climbed roughly 2% during the session, while Ether, XRP, Solana and several smaller assets also moved higher.
That breadth matters. A Bitcoin bounce powered by the entire risk complex has a better foundation than an isolated squeeze.
The market has not erased the damage from its recent rejection near $85,000, and $83,000 remains an obvious line between recovery and another failed rally.
Analyst Benjamin Cowen laid out the skeptical case before the decision, arguing that Bitcoin needed to regain the $83,000 area before the bearish setup was invalidated.
I will follow this view until proven wrong (back above $83k)
✅-Bitcoin weekly close below $83k (again)
✅-Fakeout confirmed (Oct 25)
-Fed does not raise rates (Oct 28)
-PCE comes in hot (Oct 29)
-Oil spikes over the Iran war (~$120)
-Long end goes up (10Y back to 5.3%)… https://t.co/jLHzwBwIUu— Benjamin Cowen (@benjamincowen) October 26, 2026
The Federal Reserve’s hold removed one immediate risk, but it did not settle the argument about inflation or the path of rates. A December increase remains possible, which means Bitcoin is still trading under a macro cloud even after Wednesday’s relief.
Flows into U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds offer another piece of the picture. Farside Investors recorded a strong $524.8 million net inflow on October 21, led by BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC.

Those flows show real demand remains underneath the market, but they do not guarantee a straight line higher. Bitcoin has spent days turning round-number levels into traps for both sides.
The next useful signal is simple: hold $81,000, then reclaim $83,000 with conviction. Until that happens, this is a constructive bounce inside a market that still owes investors proof.
