Polygon has teamed up with Animoca Brands and the Human Institute to produce its own human identity protocol, similar to Worldcoin.

The protocol, dubbed Humanity Protocol, is set to use palm scanning technology to verify human identity for Web 3.0 applications. Polygon Aggregated announced on Tuesday:

“Humanity Protocol navigates the fine line between sybil-proofing vs protecting the core values of decentralization and anonymity.

Coming soon to testnet, the innovative protocol led by Human Institute, in collaboration with Animoca Brands, will empower developers with unique-human authentication mechanisms, while affording users complete ownership over their data and identity.”

Humanity Protocol also posted its own announcement: “Introducing Humanity Protocol Web3 is nearing one billion wallets, and we’re here to introduce the world’s first sybil-resistant network of blockchains. Get ready to onboard the first billion humans with Humanity Protocol.”

Coin Telegraph had more on the story:

The protocol’s underlying layer 2 — the Polygon CDK — leverages zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs) to fortify network security and incorporates the proof-of-humanity (PoH) consensus mechanism for identity validation.

ZK-proofs are cryptographic protocols enabling a user to prove specific information to another user without revealing the information itself.

The protocol went on to explain: “Your palm opens doors to a secure, private Web3 world. Our palm recognition tech is not just easier to use and less invasive than traditional biometrics; it’s a revolution in how we verify identity, blending security with the utmost respect for privacy.”

Daily Coin added:

Human Institute tipped Humanity Protocol’s integration of Sybil resistance with native credential verification at the node level to unlock a flurry of novel use cases.

These use cases include the elimination of bots on decentralized social networks, airdrops, and user verification on tokenization projects.
